Tasks/calendar integration

Close.io can provide a calendar feed of your Close.io tasks, which you can "subscribe" to from common calendar applications (e.g. Google Calendar, Outlook, or Apple's Calendar app).

Click on the calendar icon in the top right to get the calendar feed URL:

This will open a modal that generates a calendar feed URL. You'll be pasting this URL into your calendar application. See below in this article for instructions on how to paste it into a specific calendar application and set up the subscription.

An API key is a kind of an application-specific "password". It's the glue that connects your calendar application and Close.io. It is important to give it an informative way so that you know which API key is responsible for which calendar feed.

Which tasks will be shown in my calendar?

The calendar feed will include whatever tasks are shown on the page where you generated the feed URL. You can generate different calendar feeds for tasks assigned to different users (or all users) by changing the user filter in the top right corner of Inbox and adding the newly-generated feed URL to your calendar.

  • To get only open/incomplete tasks in your calendar feed, generate the calendar URL from the "Inbox" and "Future" sections in Close.io.
  • To get only completed tasks in your calendar feed, generate the calendar URL from the "Done" section.
  • You can generate and subscribe to multiple calendars, to see more than one set of tasks in your calendar.
  • The feed will include tasks for whichever user (e.g. yourself or All Users) that you have selected from the dropdown before clicking the calendar icon.
  • It only include "Tasks", not emails or other items from your Inbox.

Adding a calendar feed to an iPhone Calendar

Often your calendar will show up on your iPhone automatically if you have added it to your Google Calendar or iCloud Calendar via your Mac's Calendar program. However if that isn't the case for you or you want to explicitly subscribe to your Tasks from an iPhone, follow these steps:

  1. Click the calendar icon in the top-right corner of the Inbox page and follow instructions.
  2. Get the calendar feed URL onto your phone somehow (e.g. email it to yourself). On your phone, copy that link.
  3. Go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Add Account.
  4. Choose "Other" and then "Add Subscribed Calendar".
  5. Paste the previously-copied link and click Next.
  6. The default settings are fine so you can click "Save".

Revoking a calendar feed

Keep your calendar feed URLs secret, because anyone with the URL can view details about your tasks. If you suspect your URL has become compromised, you can revoke the API key connected to your feed URL. Revoking the key will disable the calendar feed URL.

To disable your URL's API key:

  • Click on "Settings" in the left sidebar.
  • Click "Your API Keys".
  • Click "..." next to the API key connected to your calendar feed and select "Delete".
  • Confirm that you want to delete your API key.
