Create notifications for field changes using Close.io Event Log and Zapier

The Event Log (available through our API), keeps track of changes made in the last 30 days. It covers most changes (e.g. creating leads, changing a lead’s custom field value, or updating a contact).

You can access the Event Log directly through our API, but you can also use it with Zapier to create notifications/alerts when certain things are changed or deleted in Close.io

Here are some walkthroughs for the most common Event Log based Zaps:

If you have any questions about setting up a different kind of Event Log Zap (or have any questions about the Event Log in general) get in touch with our support team.

Track lead assignment changes

  1. Trigger on Close.io New Event. To get your webhook set up, send Zapier’s generated webhook URL to support:

  2. In the options for New Event, select Lead for the Object Type, Select Updated for the Action, and select your Assignment field in the Changed Field dropdown. (In this example, the Assignment field is “Referred by”.) You can also optionally add User ID for more specific logging.

  3. Create a Google Spreadsheet row for each change using Google Sheets > Create Spreadsheet Row:

In this step, you can use the dropdown box on the right of each field to correctly map the fields in the Trigger Step (Close.io New Event) to your Google Sheet.

Be notified about lead deletions

  1. Trigger on Close.io New Event. To get your webhook set up, send Zapier’s generated webhook URL to support:

  2. In the options for New Event, select Lead for the Object Type, select Deleted for the Action:

  3. Send yourself an email for each deleted lead using Email By Zapier:

Set your status in Slack to “on a call” when you answer a call in Close.io (and switch the status to available when the call has ended)

Note there will be two Zaps (one for starting a call one for ending a call).

Zap 1: Starting a call

  1. Trigger on Close.io New Event. To get your webhook set up, send Zapier’s generated webhook URL to support:

  2. In the options for New Event, select Call for the Object Type, Select Created for the Action, and select your name in the User ID field:

  1. Press continue and test the step.

  2. Once the test has completed, add a Slack “Set Status” action to your Zap. Here you can fill in exactly what you want you’re status to say while you’re on a call:

  3. Press continue to test this step, and your status will be changed while you’re on a call.

Zap 2: Ending a call

This Zap changes your status back when the call is completed.

  1. Trigger on Close.io New Event. When you see this screen, send an email to support with the URL:

  2. In the options for New Event, select Call for the Object Type, Select “Use Custom Value” for the Action and type in completed in lowercase, and select your name in the User ID field:

  3. Press continue and test the step.

  4. Once the test has completed, add a Slack “Set Status” action to your Zap. Here you can fill in exactly what you want you’re status to say when you complete a call:
